Schoharie County resident Paul Hallock, 65, of Cobleskill, was arrested Thursday, April 10, following a New York State Police investigation into alleged misconduct at William H. Golding Middle School.

An investigation found that Hallock, who works as a lunch monitor at the school, engaged in inappropriate conversations with multiple students between October 2024 and February of this year, according to police.

Troopers opened a formal investigation Monday, April 7, after receiving a complaint about the alleged misconduct.

The alleged conversations were determined to be “injurious to the children’s mental and moral welfare,” according to police.

Hallock was remanded to the Schoharie County jail and faces five counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

In a letter sent to families on Friday, April 11, Cobleskill-Richmondville Central School District Superintendent Matthew Sickles confirmed the arrest and said the employee had been placed on administrative leave when concerns were first raised.

“This individual has been on administrative leave and has not been on school grounds since the District was first made aware of concerns within the past week,” Sickles wrote. “Upon learning of the initial complaints, the District acted immediately and followed all appropriate protocols, including contacting law enforcement.”

Sickles emphasized the district’s commitment to student safety and said counseling resources are available to students who may be affected.

New York State Police continue to investigate and ask anyone with additional information — or who believes they may be a victim — to call 518-457-6811 or email Crimetip@troopers.ny.gov.

Families with general concerns or questions may also contact the school district directly at 518-234-4032 ext. 2000 to speak with a member of the District Leadership Team.
